Flora, Conchi, Alicia... the faces of gender violence in 2021
Flora, Conchi, Alicia, Jordina, Paula... are some of the 44 women fatalities of gender-based violence in 2021. An unacceptable figure for a democratic society, despite being the lowest recorded since 2003, when they began accounting for sexist crimes. Since that year, 1,126 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners.
The minors Isabel, Mohamed, Anna, Olivia, Leo, an 11-month-old baby, and Abril, have not seen the arrival in 2022 either, murdered by their parents or their mothers' partners. Seven girls and boys victims of vicarious violence, the cruelest, the one whose objective is to harm and destroy women through the damage inflicted on the people she loves the most, mainly her daughters and sons. Since 2013, the first year for which there is data, 46 minors have been murdered in sexist crimes.
In addition, the aggressors of the 43 women murdered in 2021 have orphaned 30 minor girls and boys (the older ones are not included in the statistics), a figure that rises to 336 since 2013.
Of the 44 women murdered the year that just ended, presumably at the hands of their partners or ex-partners, 24 were Spanish and 20 foreigners, while of the 44 aggressors who perpetrated the crimes, 36 (82%) were Spanish and 8 foreigners.
Five of the murdered women had a protective order activated. Their killers violated the restraining order and killed them. In all these cases the system failed and was not able to protect them.
Only 10 of the 44 aggressors had previous complaints of abuse: 22 were ex-partners or were breaking up, and another 22 continued to maintain a sentimental relationship with the victims. 13 of the attackers committed suicide, so they cannot be tried for their crimes, and another 6 attempted it.

PROGRESS 2021
Throughout 2021, the Ministry of Equality has implemented various measures to try to stop gender violence, a structural problem that requires the involvement of the whole of society and which, in 2021, has claimed the life of a woman every eight days.
Thus, throughout the year, in compliance with the Istanbul Convention, 016 was extended to all victims of sexist violence and included victims of physical, psychological and sexual violence; of female genital mutilation, forced marriage, harassment, forced abortion or forced sterilization, as well as to the relatives of the victims who require information.
016 was reinforced with the WhatsApp number 600000016 for women victims of sexist violence and the "Violet Points" were promoted, offering information on how to act in a case of violence against women.
In addition, the Children's Law finally saw the light of day, which included that parents involved in a criminal proceeding for gender violence cannot have a regime of visits to their minor children and prohibited Parental Alienation Syndrome ( SAP).
On November 25, the International Day against Gender Violence, all parliamentary groups, except Vox, sealed the renewal of the State Pact against Gender Violence to make it permanent and shield its public financing.
And on December 23, the Congress of Deputies endorsed the improvement of the conditions of access to pensions for orphans of sexist violence and extended this aid to minors whose mother has been murdered by their partner or ex-partner, although this is not the father of the children, and those who are adopted.
