The black rat that worries in Madrid: up to 35 localized outbreaks!
The expansion of the black rat in Méndez Álvaro, Madrid is worrying. And a lot. although it is not the first time that the alarm has been raised, experts always try to reassure about it. Up to 35 outbreaks have been found in the area.
It has been the National Association of Environmental Health Companies (ANECPLA) that has warned, along with various expert representatives of the Public Administration and environmental health companies, that has sounded the alarm.
The problem is that it is reproducing at high speed around the Méndez Álvaro bus station. They have also been sighted among the trees, where they hide their nests.

Efforts are being made to prevent this species from roaming freely in increasing numbers. ANECPLA has recommended that citizens not deposit food or waste on public roads to stop the expansion of the black rat (Rattus rattus)
It is a species that has increased notably in the last two years in Madrid and that, unlike other rats, moves through parks and gardens and not through sewage systems.
The black rat transmitting serious diseases
The appearance and expansion of the black rat means that they can transmit "serious" diseases such as leptospirosis, toxoplde asmosis or hantavirus. For this reason, efforts are already being made to alleviate the situation, with pest management companies in collaboration with the different municipalities.
