The non-renewal of Iago Aspas
Celtic
The striker ends his contract with Celta in 2023 and it is expected that he can sign the extension as soon as possible
He silenced the whispers that questioned his start to the season and his form by signing a goal that tasted like a feat in the sky-blue comeback against FC Barcelona, and now he faces this Saturday's game against Villarreal wanting more. Meanwhile, he awaits the arrival of his third child, which will take place this month. Iago Aspas is where he should be, but two years have passed since his last renewal and the sky-blue fans are already thinking about the next one.
Celta's ten signed his most recent contract extension last 2019. Since his return to Vigo in 2015, he had renewed every two years; he did so in 2017 and in the aforementioned 2019, both times in the month of April. 2021 is coming to an end in a month and a half and the latest news about it from the owner of the entity was not positive.
Last summer, Carlos Mouriño publicly vetoed the representation agency of Iago Aspas and Denis Suárez after the departure of Bryan Bugarín to Real Madrid. The Celtic president urged Salceda to look for a team and assured that his club would not negotiate anything again with Intermedia Sport Player, the representation agency for which Jonathan Aspas, brother and representative of Iago, works.
Iago wants to continue
This is how the months have passed and Aspas' contract, which expires next 2023, has not been extended. The footballer will then be 36 years old, but he recently assured on Radio Galega that he hopes to reach an agreement to continue at the club in which he is already a legend.
On August 23, 2023, Celta will celebrate his centenary. If everything goes according to plan and the sporting results allow it, Eduardo Coudet will then continue on the bench of the Vigo club -because he renewed until 2024-. However, in addition to Aspas himself, there are many academy players who end their contract a few weeks earlier, specifically on June 30: Denis Suárez -if he manages to fulfill it-, Hugo Mallo, Kevin Vázquez and goalkeeper Rubén Blanco. Santi Mina and Brais Méndez, for their part, have signed their continuity until 2024.
