Updated'Maixabel', the eleventh feature film as a director by Madrid-born filmmaker Icíar Bollaín, arrived in Spanish cinemas last Friday, September 24, after having been presented in the Official Section of the 69th San Sebastián International Film Festival, where it was warmly received by critics and the public, winning the Irizar Award for Basque Cinema.

And in its first weekend on the billboard it has become the best premiere of the week in Spanish cinemas with an approximate collection of 450,000 euros during the weekend alone.
Inspired by the story of the widow of Juan María Jáuregui, assassinated by ETA
The film, starring Blanca Portillo and Luis Tosar, together with María Cerezuela and Urko Olazabal, is inspired by real events and tells the story of Maixabel Lasa, widow of the Basque politician assassinated by ETA, Juan María Jáuregui, who was one of the first victims of the terrorist group in agreeing to meet with her husband's murderers in prison, within the framework of the restoration promoted in 2011 from the so-called 'Vía Nanclares'.
'Maixabel', written by the screenwriter Isa Campo ('Between two waters', 2018) and Icíar Bollaín, is a production by Kowalski Films (Koldo Zuazua) and FeelGood (Juan Moreno and Guillermo Sempere) with the participation of RTVE, EiTB and Movistar+ and the help of the Ministry of Culture - ICAA, the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the collaboration of the San Sebastián - Gipuzkoa Film Commission. It is distributed in Spain through Buena Vista International and can be seen in many theaters in our country.
