The Classroom of the Faculty of Experimental Sciences has hosted the opening ceremony of the 2021-22 academic year of the sixteenth edition of the Master's Degree in Environment (MTA), promoted by the University of Huelva in collaboration with the International University of Andalusia (UNIA). ) in collaboration with a consortium of companies and institutions.
It is a unique postgraduate training with this theme in Andalusia, and which seeks to provide exhaustive training to students in this area, covering technological, economic, legal and environmental management aspects.
Present at this opening of the academic year were the Vice-Rector for Academic Planning, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies, Beatriz Aranda; the dean of the Faculty of Experimental Sciences, Inés Garbayo; the director of the UNIA at its headquarters in La Rábida, Agustín Galán; and the director of the Master, Rafael Torronteras.
Beatriz Aranda stressed that this Master's in Environment is one of the most traditional postgraduate courses at the University of Huelva, and expressed her gratitude to the UNIA and the consortium of companies that make up Atlantic Copper, Aguas de Huelva and the Provincial Council, who It is possible that this master's degree, fully consolidated and a benchmark throughout the country, will continue to grow year after year. In addition, he has encouraged "you to take advantage of everything you learn in this master's degree, since you have a unique opportunity with this training".
For his part, the director of the UNIA in La Rábida, Agustín Galán, welcomed the students who "every year increase their presence in this master's degree, including those from Latin America." Likewise, Galán thanked the UHU for the good relationship between the two universities and that "initiatives like these are possible when the relationship is fluid, everything becomes easier". On the other hand, the director of the UNIA has highlighted the "extraordinary effort not only to launch titles like this, but to maintain it, in addition to, as I know, the objective of guiding and channeling students towards viable professional opportunities, the A good proof is that the students have quickly joined their first professional experiences.
The dean of the Faculty of Experimental Sciences of the UHU, Inés Garbayo, during the inauguration, recalled that “Environmental Engineering tries to train professionals for the protection of the environment in two ways; on the one hand, it identifies, analyzes and evaluates the possible impacts produced on the environment; on the other, it must apply the best available technologies, which allow at all times the remediation of the environment disturbed by human activity”.
On the other hand, the director of the master, Rafael Torronteras, has shown his satisfaction because the number of students "has increased again as it has been doing year after year and we have reached the figure of 42 students for this edition." Torronteras has emphasized his gratitude to the teaching staff, and to the departments and research groups involved in the Master's Degree, as well as to the more than 40 collaborating companies and institutions for their selfless collaboration, and for offering students the opportunity to carry out their first professional external internships. In this regard, he has highlighted "the high rate of employability of our master's degree, since many students get their first job after completing it."
After the opening ceremony, the person in charge of the CO2 area, ESG department and the Carbon cycle at CEPSA, Susana Revilla Sánchez, offered a conference on 'Carbon Systems: regulation and prices'.
Unique training in Andalusia Specifically, this Master is focused on the training of specialists who cover the existing professional gap in the environmental engineering sector; technicians specialized in the design, operation and maintenance of renewable energy facilities, decontamination and reuse of water and waste, control of atmospheric pollution, etc., with the necessary scientific and technical knowledge that will allow them to successfully tackle any project in this field .
Bearing in mind that the Environmental Engineering sector is growing at rates greater than 30%, the job opportunities for environmental engineers are very broad, ranging from design of treatment facilities, development of instrumentation and methodologies for environmental quality control, direction of environmental research, design and development of environmental restoration techniques, or environmental quality management, among many others.
In addition, the collaboration of the Consortium of Companies, made up of Aguas de Huelva –through its Chair at the University of Huelva–, Atlantic Copper, and the Huelva Provincial Council, makes it possible to guarantee the adaptation of training to the needs of the environmental engineering, and gives the option to carry out internships at the end of the academic program, in a wide range of companies in the environmental sector. Similarly, another of the main objectives of the Consortium is to subsidize activities for students taking the Master's degree, such as scholarships for enrollment and stays, visits to facilities, or the organization of conferences and seminars on specific topics.
Likewise, master's degree students have access to the services of the Employment Orientation Office of the University of Huelva and its job bank. The purpose of this service is to bring the student closer to the world of work, thus facilitating access to their first job through joining internships in companies and supporting their initiatives to create new business projects, also teaching them how to prepare their first CV or what to do a job interview.
This Huelva postgraduate course has been awarded the Quality Mention by the Ministry of Education and Science, which is a recognition of scientific/technical and training solvency, both for the master's degree itself and for the groups and departments involved in it. Obtaining this Mention enables university programs to participate in obtaining mobility grants for teachers and students in calls from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. Along with this, this Master is part of a list of Quality Postgraduate Programs of Spanish Universities, which is public and a benchmark for quality assurance.
