Vitoria fines 537 vehicles for going over 30km/h News Vitoria-Álava

The Local Police has fined 537 vehicles in a month for exceeding 30 kilometers / hour. Of course, the fines could be repeated if the vehicle has been hunted by the radar for several days. These fines are part of the mobile radar campaign, which has lasted for a month, since the entry into force of the new regulations on May 11 and has been carried out on 39 streets in the city.

The radar is sometimes located in the camouflaged vehicle of the Local Police, but on other occasions it has been placed in the middle of the street, where the police vehicle had no room to locate itself.

Mendizorrotza and Armentia have collected almost half of the infractions with 249, the majority in Maite Zúñiga street. 122 vehicles exceeded the speed limit on this road on May 13. In addition, 34 fines have been issued in other sections of this street, 25 in the IVEF area and 9 in Artzarana street.

The Avenida de San Prudencio and the Paseo del Peregrino that connects with Zabalgana have been the other two points with the most infractions. On the ascent and descent to the Álava pattern, 34 vehicles were surprised for exceeding the speed on three different days.

While in the Paseo del Peregrino the fines amount to 59 in two days. This street is used by many vehicles to avoid traffic lights and the radar of Alto de Armentia or to go south of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Outside of Armentia, Portal de Elorriaga and Portal de Lasarte are the only streets that exceed 25 violations. In the first of them, the Local Police has denounced 57 vehicles in two days for exceeding 30 kilometers / hour. And on the street that connects Lasarte with Vitoria-Gasteiz. the radar has surprised 37 cars.

United Nations Avenue in Zabalgana is one of the main thoroughfares for many Júndiz workers or families who take their children to school. And it is that 20 vehicles were caught by the radar on May 27 at 8:30 in the morning. A rush hour in which most of the traffic in this area gathers.

But another 10 vehicles will receive a speeding ticket at 7:40 p.m. on the same day. In addition, this street is reduced to 30 km / hour except in the final section from the school to the roundabout.

New road markings

In order to reduce speed, the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council has painted new "chevron" and "dragon teeth" road signs. According to the council, the optical effect of these marks will make the cars brake at those points.

These signs were painted one day after the speed control campaign ended. In addition, it coincides that the first brands are in the area with the most fines, Maite Zúñiga street. They were also painted before a Zumabide pedestrian crossing. In the event that the tests work, the City Council will extend these marks to the rest of the city.
