COPE Herraiz: "The Government stopped talking about 'repeal' because they were losing the marketing battle"

Hello. Welcome to 'The Morning of the Weekend' on this last Sunday in January.

If yesterday was a splendid day to be in the middle of winter, today is going to be even better, because the maximum temperatures rise a little more. Ascent in which it is necessary to take into account that gap of 20 degrees between the minimums -below zero- that are now registered in many points of the center and the northern half, and the maximums that are reached after noon. One more day, without rain.

RAFA NADAL, GOING FOR HIS 21 GRAND SLAM

Right now, it's six in the afternoon in Melbourne, Australia, and in an hour and a half, at a tennis court called Rod Laver Arena, Rafa Nadal once again has an appointment with history.

If he beats Russia's Medvedev in the Australian Open final today, it will be his twenty-first grand slam tournament. In this way he will break the triple tie for 20 major titles that he now has with the Swiss Roger Federer and the Serbian Novak Djokovic. You will be able to follow it live on the COPE website, on mobile applications and on COPE MAS stations.

LABOUR REFORM

We are about to launch a week in which the Government once again shows its parliamentary weakness. It is not the first time that his partners threaten not to give him their support and in the end they vote yes. We have seen it in the budgets and in so many other matters.

The immediate thing is or should be the validation of the decree that is going to retouch the labor reform that Rajoy approved in 2012. The repeal, which was the flag that Podemos and the PSOE raised at the same time, fell by the wayside.

Repeal fell by the wayside first, because technically they couldn't. Second, because they realized that they were losing the battle of language and marketing, which is a priority for this Government. It is incompatible to want to completely repeal a law and at the same time sell that thanks to the same law that they want to fully charge, 840,000 jobs were created in Spain in 2021. And thirdly, because a minimum agreement has been sought with a lace that has allowed it to receive the approval of unions and employers.

What is the problem facing the Government this week? They do not have sufficient parliamentary support. That the usual members of the PSOE have been attacked by horns because they were not taken into account in their negotiation.

The Government pulled a decree on the eve of New Year's Eve thinking that it had the rug to carry it forward in Congress and has found the no of ERC, Bildu, CUP and BNG. They ask for changes. Some very generic, such as more measures to tackle job insecurity, and other specific ones, such as recovering compensation for unfair dismissal of 45 days per year worked. Since 2012, if the dismissal is declared unfair, the company has to choose between either reinstating that worker or compensating the employee for 33 days per year worked, with a limit of 24 monthly payments.

We are on Sunday, the decree reaches Congress on Thursday and must be validated by a simple majority, that is, more yeses than noes. They are looking for alternative formulas that make up for the lack of support from ERC or Bildu. And now they are looking at Ciudadanos, who would be willing to say yes, but who would get the PSOE into trouble with their usual partners.

RUSSIA - UKRAINE CONFLICT

We are going to continue talking about the conflict on the Ukrainian border, about the Russian threat, throughout the next week. It does not seem that the invasion is going to be imminent and neither is the agreement. There are several meetings called for the next few days as part of this diplomatic strategy to avoid a war, which nobody wants, but which nobody rules out either.

Tomorrow the matter goes to the UN Security Council. Before starting to speak, there has already been a disagreement. The US has asked for the meeting to address the crisis in Eastern Europe, and Russia didn't want it because they say it's an embarrassing public relations stunt.

And for the following Monday, for February 7, another meeting in another forum. Foreign representatives from Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine, known as the Normandy quartet, will meet in Berlin to try to reduce tension. And, in between, there will be more attempts at dialogue. What does this mean? That the matter is going on for a long time and that it is not expected to be rushed or resolved immediately.

The Russian threat has been present this weekend in Spain in two very different scenarios and with two parties located at the ends of the political arc: Podemos and Vox. The first is in the Government and Vox is the third party with the most deputies in Congress.

Those of Podemos continue to make efforts to distance themselves from the position of their partner in Moncloa in an increasingly wide crack. The PSOE is with NATO and we maintain military support even with new shipments such as the Blas de Lezo frigate.

In Podemos, they sing that no to war, hiding who the aggressor is. They have seen in this crisis a reason to recover votes on the left and once the prey has been bitten, they do not want to let go of it.

What's the latest? The latest is a letter sent by the Ministry of Social Rights directed by Ione Belarra, the secretary of Podemos. Thus, in summary, she demands that Foreign Affairs, that is, the Government of which she is a part, withdraw the troops mobilized during these days. The argument? As usual.

The "no to war" we all sing. And with more arguments than we can. But the question is, why don't they tell Putin and Russia? What is striking here is that this “no to war”, the “no” to Spain's support for the NATO mission, is reflected in a letter sent from the Ministry of Social Rights to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Very well. As if they didn't know each other. As if they were two separate entities. As if the two were not part of the same government. Wouldn't it be better if they talked about it on Tuesday at the cabinet table? Or is it that these meetings only serve to tell each other how tall and handsome they are?

And then there is Vox's stance on the Ukraine crisis. This weekend, Santi Abascal's party has brought together several European leaders in Madrid with whom they have many points in common and also a few differences. They are companies of diverse coat that in many cases threaten the basic principles of the European Union. And with the one that is falling in Europe, a better integration is needed with coordinated actions that face órdagos like the Russian. Do not go each for free.

In what they have called the Madrid Summit, together with Abascal, the prime ministers of Poland and Hungary or the French Marine Le Pen, the leader and candidate of the National Group, the former National Front of France, have participated.

Here, Santiago Abascal ran into a problem. The Hungarian maintains a very good relationship with Putin and a lot of business with Moscow, so he does not want to bother Russia.

And opposite, also in that meeting in Madrid, the Polish Prime Minister, Morawiecki, who leads a Polish nationalist party and, therefore, opposed to Putin's imperialist dream. The Pole says that the Russian is a problem for Europe.

In the end, in the joint statement they dared to point out that Russia's military actions on the eastern border of Europe have brought us to the brink of war. That was the minimum agreement they reached. And also to claim that each nation has its voice, a direct message to respect Ukraine's sovereignty. The rest, their criticisms were aimed at questioning the effectiveness of the European Union, not only in the conflict on the border with Ukraine.

CASTILE AND LEON ELECTIONS

Right now in Spain all the parties look at Castilla y León. It happened in Madrid last year and will be repeated in 2022. Other regional elections that are brought forward, another PP Ciudadanos coalition government that is blown up, and other elections that are interpreted in a national key. For this reason, all the leaders, from Pedro Sánchez, to Pablo Casado and even a Yolanda Díaz, disappeared through Castilian-Leonese lands, measure their appearances a lot.

Sánchez's presence will be limited and his presence at 4 rallies has been announced. Casado is going to be in all the provinces and Yolanda Díaz we'll see. And Citizens what? They do not have good expectations, it is a decomposing party that disappeared from the Madrid Assembly and that, if it follows the same path in Castilla y León, will place them on the verge of disappearance.

That saying so Castilian that says that "a skinny dog, everything is fleas" is fulfilled to the letter with Ciudadanos. The candidate of this formation to the presidency of the Junta de Castilla y León is Francisco Igea. This legislature has been the vice president in the coalition government with Mañueco.

The official campaign had barely lasted a few hours, when he began to notice symptoms, he took a test and has tested positive. He has to quarantine for 7 days, like everyone else, and in addition to not being able to participate this week in the events he had called, he cannot be physically in the debate, the first debate scheduled for tomorrow, Monday. Igea asks that it be postponed.

This is the request and everything will depend on what the PP and PSOE propose. It must be said that the Electoral Board established that the telematic route was a valid option.

GARZÓN AND THE MACROFARMS

The one who continues his rattle about the macro-farms is Alberto Garzón. As Minister of Consumption, what he should do and tell us is that the meat that comes out of INTENSIV livestock meets all the controls. Which is something, which by the way, they have said from the community authorities. The agriculture commissioner himself, who is Polish, two weeks ago in Madrid, endorsed the quality of our meat.

Garzón returns to the fray and this time he has been very careful to question the quality of the meat produced in these intensive livestock facilities. Instead, he continues to act as a commentator and activist instead of a minister.

Back to the same. If there are facilities that fail to comply, they should be sanctioned. If there are farms that have been built without the corresponding permits, let a file be opened. And if you want to legislate against this type of meat companies, do it now, since you are in the Government. That anyone can serve to dogmatize against macro-farms. You don't have to be a minister.

What cannot be opened is a general cause that puts in the pillory a sector that is not just any in Spain. We export more than 2 million tons of meat products to other countries. From China to South Africa passing through Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Ivory Coast or Canada. Garzón opens the debate. Why doesn't he provide solutions? And one more question. Why doesn't he say anything about the price of electricity or fuel? As if that wasn't consumption.

CAHNEL, TO EUROVISION

And for Eurovision fans, also for those who are not. This is the song that will represent us at the festival that this year is celebrated in Turin, Italy.

For those who did not follow the gala in which the representative of Spain was chosen, the winner is presented as Chanely, she is a young woman of Cuban origin, she is 30 years old, lives in Spain since she was 4 and her full name is Chanel Terrero.

You just have to look at the lyrics of the winning song to check the little gem that we took to Eurovision. The queen, the tough one, a bugatti. The world is crazy with this party. If I have a problem, it is not monetary. I drive all the daddies crazy.

Anyway. No need to continue, right? They call this euroreguetton, it's what young people listen to and what do they want me to tell them? I don't see myself represented.

By the way. There was controversy because the Galician Tanxugeuiras were the most voted. The disappointment was Rigoberta Bandini, who started from her as her favorite and who had received support from the Government because they already saw her as a new icon of feminism with the issue of breasts and breasts. In Eurovision, the left with Irene Montero and Gabrial Rufián in the lead, lost her bet, which was still another scam, as the winner.
