Emprendedor21: My Bump, heartbeat of fashion in maternity
What options does a pregnant woman have to dress? Under this premise, My Bump was born, a Peruvian store that offers fashionable garments specially designed to be used during the gestation process.
Her owner, Luciana Rey , 34 years old and mother of two little ones, found a good niche in her business, because, according to her, maternity clothes were a "rather neglected" market in the country.
In a conversation with Peru21 , this entrepreneurial mom provided all the details about her business idea, with which she seeks to position herself as an attractive alternative for all those pregnant women who do not want to lose their style.
How did you decide to create My Bump? -I am a communicator, I worked in marketing for more than 5 years, but I always had the vision and taste for fashion. The whole idea of the business was born as a result of my first pregnancy.
When I got married in 2011, my husband and I ventured out and traveled abroad for his master's degree. During our stay in the United States, I did a degree in fashion business in New York. While doing these study trips I got pregnant in Singapore. In 2013, returning to Peru, she was already a mother and was clear that she did not want to return to the corporate world.

What is the main strength of your business? Not because they are pregnant they all have to dress the same. Maternity clothes don't have to be a costume. We are a different and varied proposal. There are different garments that adapt to the style of each woman. Pregnancy doesn't have to change your personality.
During pregnancy, the body changes a lot and it is not easy to find clothes that make you feel comfortable. It was a pretty underserved market. I try to make the attention personalized and not to sell for the sake of selling, but to guide the client so that she can show off what she is wearing.
What do you think was the biggest difficulty you had to start your business? -The difficulty was not so much at the beginning, but when growing. That's where you face important decisions. You have to know when to invest and take the next step; however, to undertake, you also have to have a lot of passion and patience, money is not earned after 5 months. Another detail is that the pregnant woman buys for the moment and this forces us to work in a specialized way.
What lesson have you learned in these months of entrepreneurship? -You have to know how to organize. It is important to have a salary from the beginning, but the idea is to reinvest this money that comes in as profit, only then can we grow as a company.
