The Government will ban the sale of fruits and vegetables in plastic containers from 2023
The Government of Spain is finalizing the creation of a royal decree that will prohibit the sale of fruits and vegetables in plastic containers from 2023 in retail businesses, such as personal businesses or supermarkets.
The Executive chaired by Pedro Sánchez is working on the idea of creating the royal decree on packaging and waste that the Ministry for the Ecological Transition is detailing. A measure that will try to deal with the large amount of plastics that are used in many fresh products.
Under this proposed rule, businesses will also be encouraged to use bulk sales more, as well as offer non-bottled water. A decree that follows in the footsteps of the French anti-waste law with which the French country will reduce the use of plastics in some products from 2022.
The Government of Spain will continue to fight against pollution and curb climate change and, according to sources from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition to El País, it is about "combating the overuse of packaging in the most effective way".

An excess in the use of plastics that pollutes and with which "all limits have already been exceeded". For this reason, the central Executive follows the steps proposed by some organizations such as Greenpeace, which invited institutions to take measures against the use of plastic in fresh products.
Although the standard is not yet ready, since it is a draft. The department directed by Teresa Ribera will allow the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition to offer a list of foods that will not be able to use plastic from the year 2023.
The objective is to reduce the commercialization of products such as plastic bottles by 50% before the year 2030 and for this, reusable packaging must be used. A challenge that the Government wants to face from the new proposed royal decree.
