Starting this Monday, January 24, the State of Mexico returned to the yellow epidemiological traffic light, due to the increase in infections by the new variant of COVID-19, Omicron, and which is part of a new wave in the country and the world.
Sanitary measures have been reinforced in the businesses of the Toluca Valley, such is the case of Hugo Valdés, who now implements the sanitization of his business every two hours for greater safety of buyers, as well as employees.
“We do not take off the mask at all, we keep hand washing, and now sanitization. For example, customers come and since they touch the clothes, right now we sanitize every hour for prevention, even if they apply the antibacterial gel when they enter.”
For some others, like María García, who has a boutique, she says that although it is permissible to enter changing rooms, she tries to sanitize the garments, and since her business is small, the capacity is normally reduced.
“Only four people enter, and all of them with face masks, they must use antibacterial gel, measures must be reinforced due to this increase in infections, it is necessary to prevent the spread,” she said.
No capacity or hours will be reduced. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared this new strain as "very contagious", however vaccination is a great advance to avoid an increase in deaths or hospitalizations, so that in businesses capacity or hours will not be reduced, that is, the measures of the green traffic light will be maintained.
Retail and wholesale businesses will maintain a capacity of 80 percent, including public squares, restaurants, clothing stores, electronics stores, among others. While social and religious events, as well as bars, canteens, discos, it is 50 percent as long as the healthy distance is respected.
