Madrid Transport Councillor will meet with residents of San Fernando de Henares affected by the 7B metro line after the evictions
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, David Pérez, will meet this Tuesday with the neighbors of San Fernando de Henares affected by Metro line 7B of Madrid, which has caused damage to more than 200 buildings in the said locality. The meeting comes days after the last eviction in the area affected by the suburban route, which was notified last Thursday to eight families, and after a few weeks in which the neighbors have raised their voices to demand solutions to the problems with which they have been living together for more than a decade.
"without this struggle we would not have succeeded," Eva Medina, one of the neighbors affected, reacted in statements shared on social networks by the City of San Fernando de Henares, chaired by socialist Javier Corpa. The councillor welcomed the holding of the meeting and, like the neighbors, blamed it on the demands of the last days.
"Mr. David Pérez is moving, and moving thanks to the mobilization of San Fernando de Henares, the social entities, the Platform and the Association of affected people," Corpa said, "this is a victory for the neighbors," he added.
As pointed out from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the councillor has previously visited the area and has spoken with the neighbors. Asked about last week's evictions, on Monday David Pérez has assured that the regional executive has taken care of the neighbors "within a minute of the occurrence" of any eventuality. The advice, he insisted, is sensitive to the problem of the neighbors and dedicates "all necessary means" to it. "No one will be able to say a single measure that we have not put in place that is necessary for the safety of the neighbors," he said.
As he did last week, Pérez repeated this Monday that the San Fernando City Council's attitude to this problem "has left much to be desired" and accused him of using this matter "politically". "we demand less statements, more diligence and more work," said Isabel Díaz Ayuso's advisor.
Last Friday, the City Council of San Fernando de Henares held an extraordinary plenary session to address the situation of affected families following recent evictions and also held a meeting with neighbors in the same building. On Monday, at 6.30 p.m., a neighbourhood rally is planned, in front of number 2 of Presa Street, to demand solutions.
According to the assessment of the situation made by the Madrid City Council, in recent years more than 200 buildings have some kind of damage on line 7B, 15 streets have different conditions, three low houses have been destroyed, several businesses have had to cease their activity and more than 30 families have been evicted and relocated to tourist apartments.
In addition, because of this problem, San Fernando de Henares has lost a seat of the Official School of languages and closed a Municipal Exhibition Hall, a Women's House and a Youth House.
