Three out of ten tourist companies are in an advanced digitalization phase
The tourism sector has been trying to recover months and, although the situation has managed to improve a little, there is still a long way to go.To do this, from the sector several strategies have been designed that will allow to favor recovery, but also modernization. This is the case of digitalization of the sector, a phenomenon that has also been carried out in other sectors such as advertising or retail.
In order to implement this digitalization, the Government has provided companies with the tourism sector for a first call for aid, in which up to a total of 25 million euros will be allocated.Aid may be from 300.€ 000 up to 5 million euros.
According to the Ostelea Tourism School, "this will allow the adoption of new technologies to increase and facilitate tourism in Spain, which has always been key in our country".
In addition, 10.8% of Spanish companies are in an advanced digitalization phase, a figure that amounts to 30% when it comes to tourist companies, according to the Deep Digitial Journey technical report prepared by LlyC.
While some experts talk about tourism recovery by 2022, others do not look so hopeful and date this phenomenon by 2023 or even 2024.In fact, the government plans aid with two clear objectives: digitalization and sustainability. These aid are hopeful for many, since they would allow “promoting collaborations between tourist businesses around the world” or “reverse the current lack of skill and skill that there are among many tourism professionals” as sources of ostelea expose.

The importance of digitalization
To provide new technologies actors opens the way to a range of possibilities and new trends for the tourism of the future. One of the main objectives is to transform the experience of reserving online into something easy and without complications, especially taking into account that most plan their trip online.According to data provided by EFE, more than half of the citizens who planned a trip, did it online already in 2019.
Another of the trends that will begin to be seen more and more, will be the virtual reality. This will allow the client to make sure he will stay in a place he likes.Big Data strategies will also be important to make improvements. All the opinions and information that the tourist will leave that has already visited a place, can be used through a solid data strategy that allows the future tourist to know clearly how the passage of other people has been through that place.
"The lack of skills that tourism professionals possess digitalization is one of the problems that prevents the modernized sector," they say from ostelea. It is a pending subject that can be expensive for many professionals and businesses, but that will eventually bring important advantages, such as the improvement of customer experience, time savings and paperwork or the identification of new trade opportunities.
