Zoom analyzes the behavior of its users in meetings in the last year
The leading video communications company has conducted a survey to gain insight into how its users have behaved while using the tool.
Over the past few months, thousands of people around the world have spent many hours on Zoom, whether for work, meetings, or just for personal use with friends and family. Each user has behaved differently, they have shown themselves in front of the camera in many ways, and they have connected to meetings from peculiar places.
That's why Zoom, the leading video communications company, has conducted a survey of nearly 1,700 people who have used the tool over the past year to get insight into what's going on while they meet virtually and demonstrate how users have used the tool in 2021.

Zoom's video conferencing platform has been used in 2021 in nearly 200 countries and territories around the world. In order to hold work meetings to a greater extent, the survey has shown that the main day of the week for holding meetings during the last year was Wednesday, followed by Tuesday and Thursday. In addition, the average duration was 54 minutes and the average participation was 10 participants.
Zoom has also wanted to point out the key dates of this year where there has been more activity. In this sense, January 21 was the busiest day in relation to virtual meetings, September 21 in relation to phone calls, and February 25 in relation to webinars.
How are users shown in front of (and behind) the camera?
The survey has delved into how users have shown themselves when turning on the camera. 68% have dressed casually to attend meetings, and 26% have never (or almost never) showered before going on their calls. In addition, Zoom demonstrates with this survey a practice that 43% carry out specifically; almost half of the users clean and tidy only the part visible to the camera when they have a meeting.
Using a video conferencing tool can also have its consequences, and even more so when the user is not alone in the place. 43% of parents had a small accident when their own children appeared during a meeting, as did users with pets (36%) who have appeared on camera on occasion.
Zoom also asked respondents for their favorite different types of virtual backgrounds. 26% of users have used outdoor landscape backgrounds in the last year, 25% have used blurred backgrounds and 20% have opted for business backgrounds for their meetings.
How do users behave on Zoom?
When using a video conferencing tool, you can say and hear a lot of things. However, there are some phrases that surely every Zoom user has ever heard in a meeting. Along these lines, 71% of users have said: "You are silent", being one of the most popular phrases according to the survey. 57% have also said: "Can everyone see my screen?", and 21%: "Next slide, please!".
Zoom has wanted to go further and has revealed a fact that perhaps, for many, does not come as a surprise, and that is that 25% of users do not say goodbye at the end of the meetings and leave their rooms without saying anything . Continuing with the sharing of users on the platform, the survey has also revealed that 73% have attended a happy-hour or a game night with friends or family and 34% have used Zoom to attend a fitness class. or kitchen.
The video communications company has also dug into the most popular places where its users have held meetings. In this sense, 42% of users have connected from bed, 21% have done so while walking or doing sports and 11% have used the tool while using public transport.
